Summer Programs

Do I need any Japanese Language knowledge to join?
No you don’t. The Japanese Language beginner level course has options for those who have no prior knowledge of Japanese language. The courses taught in English do not require any Japanese language knowledge to join. You have many course options in each session. You can even start from no Japanese beginner level to an advanced level if you take Japanese in all 4 sessions.
Can I find housing and go there directly after arriving on my own?
Yes you can. In this case, you just pay the program fee. This is also possible in the January program too.
When do I receive my transcript with grades?
For all programs, within 8 weeks from the conclusion of the sessions.

January Term

Do you offer any extra excursions?
Yes, we currently offer a Shibuya Food Walking Tour at no extra cost that is extra from the University program inclusions. This is also offered in the summer sessions too.
What's the weather like in Tokyo in January?

Days are full of clear skies, sunny, dry, and usually not too cold in the daytime. It might rarely snow but usually briefly (if we are lucky 🙂

Am I free on the weekend?
On the first Sunday after arrival day, we have a fun Scavenger hunt in Shibuya activity for just 4 hours. You can meet other students including Japanese students there. The weekend between the two weeks is totally free! This is also the case in the Summer sessions as well.

Faculty Led Programs

Can we interact with Japanese students?
Yes! With our vast network, we can arrange many interactions with Japanese students in many ways in all our programs!
Where are our classes held?
For classroom settings, they are always held at Universities within our network for all our programs. We work with many and in different cities in Japan too! Sometimes, your classes are at different Universities throughout your program to give you a diverse exposure and experience!
Do you have any references for those who have worked with you?
Yes, we have Japanese University staff and professors’ references, Japanese Junior and Senior High School references, and US University staff and professors’ references as well as Japanese company references. If you are a University faculty or staff looking to work with us, they can be available to you upon request after an initial consultation.

Maymester

What's the difference between Faculty Led Program and Maymester?
Actually they are currently the same. At this time, Maymester is a Faculty Led program that is held in the month of May (usually).
What is the usual group size that you can accept for your programs?

For Maymester and Faculty Led programs, we can accept 100+ down to ususally 15-25 students.

What are the Welcome and Farewell Dinners like? I'm vegan. Are there options for me?
All arranged meals for all our programs are usually all-you-can-eat buffet style or your own choice of various kinds of food including Japanese food and vegan, vegetarian, and halal options too. This is the case for all of our programs including summer, semester and January terms.

Semester

I have to return to the US by the beginning of January for my next term. Is that OK?
Yes, our unique program starts in September and ends in December.
Do you offer any optional activities outside of Tokyo?
Yes! Our most popular options are weekend visits to Kyoto and Nikko, and nearby Tokyo to Kamakura and Kawagoe among others!
If I get sick and need help visiting a clinic or need to speak with a counselor, can you assist?
Of course, we have a long list of English speaking clinics and counselors to recommend, and also we can assist you when you need, 24/7. This is the case in all of our programs.

Accommodation

How far is your arranged housing from the program campuses?
Usually 20-30 minutes door to door, for all our programs.
What are your arranged housing rooms like?
All housing are single rooms, furnished with bedding, with private bathroom with private bath, shower and toilet, IH cooker, pot, pan, cooking utensils, heating and air conditioning, bed and linens, body soap, shampoo and conditioner, face and bath towels, refrigerator, microwave, TV, wi-fi, on-site access to washers and dryers. Vending machines on-site and convenient stores, food markets, cafes and restaurants within minutes walk nearby.
